Gianforte Statement on Colstrip Report

Statement

Date: June 25, 2018
Location: Washington

Montana Congressman Greg Gianforte released the following statement in response to the Montana Chamber Foundation's report on "The Economic Impact of the Early Retirement of Colstrip Units 3 and 4":

"Shutting down Colstrip Units 3 and 4 prematurely and unnecessarily would be devastating for all of Montana, but particularly for eastern Montana," Gianforte said. "It's critical that these units remain open and functional. Keeping our communities strong and whole is an issue that should rise above politics. I will continue to stand up and be a strong voice for protecting Colstrip, our rural communities, and our Montana way of life."

The report may be found HERE.

Background:

If Colstrip Units 3 and 4 were shut down prematurely, Montanans would lose over $5.2 billion in income, the state would lose nearly 3,300 jobs, Montana's population would shrink by more than 7,000, and Montanans would face higher electricity prices, according to the report.
