Clarke Tucker on Family Separations at Southern Border

Clarke Tucker, Democratic candidate for Arkansas's 2nd Congressional District, today released a statement condemning the separation of children from their parents along the United States' southern border. Between October 1, 2017 and May 31, 2018 at least 2,700 children were split from their parents, 1,995 of whom were separated in the six-week period between April 18 to May 31 of this year.

Statement from Clarke Tucker:

"This administration's decision to separate children from their parents on our southern border is reprehensible, and it is easily one of the worst practices the United States government has engaged in during my lifetime. We are needlessly inflicting tragic and lifelong damage to these families, and we are severely jeopardizing our role as a leader of hope and freedom in the world. The fact that Congress has not taken action on this critical issue underlies the need both for new leadership as well as representation from someone with the courage to stand up for what's right.

"Our focus right now should only be on doing what's right today. And the right course of action now is to put an immediate end to this policy, to do everything in our power to reunite the families that have been torn apart, and for lawmakers to come together on comprehensive immigration reform that secures our border, creates opportunity for those seeking to work for a better life -- especially those brought to the United States as children -- and keeps families together along the way."
