Rep. Ellison Calls for Mulvaney's Resignation and DOJ Investigation

Press Release

Date: April 26, 2018
Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) today called for Office of Management and Budget Director (OMB) Mick Mulvaney to resign and for the Department of Justice (DOJ) to investigate whether he violated federal laws after he claimed in an address to the American Bankers Association to have received bribes as a member of Congress:

"This week, in front of a room full of banking lobbyists, Mick Mulvaney confirmed what many Americans already knew: government works great if you are a rich donor or a bank lobbyist, but not so great for everyone else," Rep. Ellison said. "According to reports, Director Mulvaney said 'If you're a lobbyist who never gave us money, I didn't talk to you. If you're a lobbyist who gave us money, I might talk to you.'"

"These comments disqualify Director Mulvaney from holding a public office of any kind. He should resign from the OMB and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and the Attorney General should immediately open an investigation into whether he violated federal criminal laws designed to prevent elected officials from engaging in pay-to-play schemes. To the public, it looks like a bribe. Plain old graft. The DOJ should investigate."
