Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Environment

Iowa Congressman David Young today introduced the WATER Act (Water and Targeted Environmental Research Act) as part of his continued focus on improving the quality of Iowa's water and soil health.

"Iowans expect and deserve clean water for themselves and their families and the WATER Act will improve research into best methods to protect and enhance our water quality," said Congressman Young. "Our farmers and ranchers work hard to protect our natural resources and deserve the best tools and resources we can provide and this bill will help farmers discover which tools are best for them to ensure our communities have clean water and healthy soil."

The WATER Act streamlines the process for land-grant universities operating extension services and ag experiment stations to access the Conservation Innovation Grant Program by reducing red tape and harnessing their capabilities to conduct research, education, and outreach.

The bill also creates a database analyzing the effectiveness of conservation practices on soil health, nutrient management, and water protection in various soils, climates, and terrains.
