Sen. Coons applauds the introduction of the House STRONGER Patents Act

Statement

U.S. Senator Chris Coons (D-Del.), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, released the following statement on the introduction of the House version of the STRONGER Patents Act. Senator Coons introduced the STRONGER Patents Act in the Senate with U.S. Senator Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) last year.

"When Senator Cotton and I introduced the STRONGER Patents Act last year, the United States patent system was rated tenth in the world by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce--the first time the U.S. was not rated first. This year, the standing of the U.S. has fallen further to twelfth place. We cannot let this slide continue, so I am excited that Congressmen Stivers and Foster have taken this wake-up call seriously and are introducing the STRONGER Patents Act in the House today. This bill takes critical steps to shore up the U.S. patent system and ensure that patents continue to play their historic role of promoting innovation by incentivizing research and development."
