Lujan Grisham Urges OMB Director Mick Mulvaney To Visit Communities In New Mexico

Press Release

Date: Feb. 14, 2018
Location: Washington, DC

During the House Budget Committee's hearing on President Trump's FY 2019 Budget, U.S. Representative Michelle Lujan Grisham urged White House Budget Director Mick Mulvaney to visit New Mexico and see first-hand how the President's proposed cuts would impact middle-class families and vulnerable populations in the state.

The cuts proposed in President Trump's FY 2019 Budget include:

$1.4 trillion cut to Medicaid
$500 billion cut to Medicare
$72 billion cut to disability programs, including Social Security
$213 billion cut to SNAP

"Half of our state is on Medicaid, twenty percent of residents live in poverty, and one out of every four New Mexico children receive SNAP," Rep. Lujan Grisham said. "These cuts would have a devastating impact on seniors, veterans, and middle-class families, and I look forward to Director Mulvaney joining me in our state to meet the people who are supported by these programs."
