Wagner Requests Her Pay be Withheld during Shutdown and Supports Bill to Pay Military, Not Congress

Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congresswoman Ann Wagner (MO-02) co-sponsored the Pay Our Protectors, Not Our Politicians Act and submitted a letter to the Chief Administrative Officer requesting her pay be withheld during the government shutdown.

"Yesterday, Senate Democrats shutdown the government over a deadline that does not exist. Because of this reckless shutdown, 9 million children are at risk of losing their health care and over 2 million members of our military, including my son whose wife just gave birth to their first child this week, are not being paid," said Congresswoman Wagner. "The Pay Our Protectors, Not Our Politicians Act will ensure that the brave men and women of our military and the national security employees at the Department of Homeland Security receive pay during the Democrats' irresponsible Schumer Shutdown. The bill will also prohibit Members of Congress from receiving their pay during the lapse of appropriations.

"In addition, I have formally requested that my pay be withheld for the duration of the government shutdown, as I did in 2013."
