Iowa Congressman David Young today continued his efforts to reauthorize funding for the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and Community Health Centers (CHC) by voting for passage of the Championing Healthy Kids Act (HR 3922).

Congressman Young joined a bipartisan group of representatives to extend CHC funding by introducing the CHIME Act. The bill would extend funding for five years at increased rates. While the CHIME Act has not been voted on, many of the provisions Congressman Young fought for were placed into the Championing Healthy Kids Act.

"Community Health Centers play a critical role in Iowa, providing access to needed services for uninsured and underserved Iowans and CHIP - the Children's Health Insurance Program - provides coverage to almost 86,000 Iowa children," said Congressman Young. "As I continue working to improve access to quality health care for all Iowans, I am pleased this bill passed the U.S. House of Representatives with bipartisan support to fund these critical programs for Iowans."

There are over 50,000 Iowans receiving care from CHCs in Iowa's Third Congressional District from 17 delivery sites. Nationwide, 9 million children are enrolled in CHIP.

The Championing Healthy Kids Act extends CHIP funding for five years and CHC funding for two years.
