Sen. Coons, Republican Sen. Risch Introduce Bipartisan Bill to Help Expand Training, Resources for Small Business Owners

U.S. Senators Chris Coons (D-DE) and Jim Risch (R-ID) today introduced the SCORE for Small Business Act of 2017. The bipartisan legislation strengthens the highly successful Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) program, which will allow SCORE volunteers to assist more small businesses and create more jobs around the country. As a non-profit association and Resource Partner of the SBA, SCORE provides services and training to help small businesses start and grow.

"SCORE is quite simply one of the most valuable programs for small business owners in this country, " said Senator Coons. "The entrepreneurial coaching provided by the experienced SCORE volunteers is a tremendous benefit to small business owners looking to grow their business. I'm proud to say that the concept for the program was established by Delaware DuPont retirees who wanted to give back by sharing hard-earned lessons in business with other entrepreneurs. I'm pleased to join with Senator Risch in introducing this important bill."

SCORE is a network of more than 10,000 volunteers who mentor entrepreneurs across 62 industries around the country. They are dedicated to educating and assisting small business owners in the formation, growth and expansion of their businesses. According to the SCORE Association, in 2016 alone, SCORE helped to create 54,072 new businesses and add 78,691 new, non-owner jobs to the American economy.
