Rep. Ted Budd (R-NC) introduced the National Paycheck Protection Act to ensure union members' dues are no longer funding political activity without their consent. The bill would require that a worker be given the option to "opt in" before a labor organization uses his or her dues for any other purpose not directly related to collective bargaining.

"Right now, millions of Americans who are paying union dues are having their money used to support political advocacy they may not believe in. The right to support or not to support political causes is guaranteed by the First Amendment, and what this bill does is make that right for union members stronger. No one should have to "opt-out" in order to exercise their constitutional rights."
