Today, U.S. Representative Tim Walz (MN-01) released the following statement after voting in favor of H.J.Res. 99, a continuing resolution to fund the government through May 5:

"Today, the United States Congress voted to keep the government's doors open for just one week. This is not regular order. This is not how business is supposed to be done in Washington. Bouncing from spending crisis to spending crisis doesn't provide our governmental agencies and departments like the VA, DoD and USDA the fiscal certainty they need to plan into the future, which ultimately hampers their ability to deliver for our veterans, service members and farmers.

"In the coming days, I hope Republicans can get their act together to reach a long-term, bipartisan agreement free of poison pills and ideological riders. Kicking the fiscal can down the road is not a sustainable strategy, and it's not responsible governance. For the betterment of the American people and the improved function of our government, something has got to change around here. My constituents are fed up with all the dysfunction. It's long past time for us to work together to get our fiscal house in order."
