Vice Chairman Rokita Advances American Health Care Act Out of Budget Committee

Today, Vice Chairman Todd Rokita co-chaired a mark-up of the American Health Care Act before the House Budget Committee, voting in favor of advancing this legislation out of the committee. The American Health Care Act is part of the process to repeal ObamaCare and replace it with patient-centered reforms. The bill advanced out of committee by a vote of 19-17.

"For over six years, the American people have rejected ObamaCare and called on Washington to pass truly patient-centered reforms that will make healthcare more accessible and more affordable. The American Health Care Act is the first step in that process, and I am proud of the work done by the Budget Committee today to discuss and advance it. Our proposal empowers patients and doctors by providing lower costs and more choices, and I look forward to continuing my efforts to repeal and replace ObamaCare as this bill moves forward."

During the mark-up, Rep. Rokita's motion to petition for an amendment to the bill supporting Medicaid block grants also passed by a vote of 21-12. Rep. Rokita has been a House leader on flexibility for the states since coming to Congress in 2011, shepherding Medicaid block grant language into the House-passed budget resolutions and re-introducing the State Health Flexibility Act earlier this year.
