Iowa Congressman David Young released the following statement after an amendment he introduced to increase transparency and reduce government waste passed the U.S. House of Representatives as part of H.R. 1009, the OIRA Insight, Reform, and Accountability Act by a vote of 265-158. H.R. 1009 subsequently passed with a vote of 241-184.

"As Iowans and all Americans know all too well, the maze of the federal bureaucracy can be too confusing and contradicting," said Iowa Congressman David Young. "The federal regulatory environment over the past few decades has allowed agencies to operate unchecked, it is time to increase regulatory transparency by improving the public's access to information."

Congressman Young's amendment would require agencies to proactively determine if a rule is duplicative or conflicting with existing regulation. The amendment also requires agency's to post their regulatory plans and a link to all records submitted to OIRA online. This important provision will give Iowans and all Americans increased government transparency.
