Issue Position: The New Buffalo

Issue Position

Sean knows that the New Buffalo will be transformational for Western New York, and he has led the way on a number of very important initiatives.

Buffalo's Waterfront
Sean has fought for a waterfront that is focused on public access, not condo complexes and surface parking lots. He worked with state officials to create the Queen City Bike Ferry, to connect Canalside and Buffalo's Outer Harbor, and encourage bicycling and walking along the waterfront. Sean also secured state funding to bring a historic carousel to Canalside, to create a new year-round family friendly attraction.

Historic Preservation
In order to help save our historic structures, Sean led the effort to extend the historic tax credit, which is saving and rehabilitating historic structures, and creating jobs and investment in our communities. Sean has also helped neighborhoods in Buffalo and Hamburg achieve historic status so that homeowners could take advantage of state tax credits to improve their homes.

New Breweries and Distilleries
Thanks to changes New York State has made, breweries and distilleries in Western New York are seeing a renaissance. Sean recognized that prohibition-era alcohol laws were hurting economic development. For many years breweries were effectively outlawed in New York State. Sean fought hard to repeal the outdated laws, and today craft beverage makers are opening up new breweries and distilleries every day in places like Buffalo, Hamburg, and throughout New York State, creating jobs and investment in our communities.
