Shelli Yoder Joins Veterans, First Responders to Talk National Security

Press Release

Date: Oct. 25, 2016
Location: New Albany, IN

Flanked by veterans and first responders at Veterans Plaza in New Albany Monday afternoon, Congressional candidate Shelli Yoder made it clear to Hoosiers that she prioritizes American national security and defense.

"We must demand a military that is technologically superior, relevant to today's shifting challenges in intelligence and defense, and maintains our position as the strongest military force in the world," Shelli Yoder said. "Our military needs to be nimble, supported, and prepared with a higher focus on intelligence, cyberwarfare, and new technologies. These are the ways we will take on and eradicate multinational terrorist organizations like ISIS, al-Qaeda, and the Taliban."

Moreover, former Congressman Lee Hamilton, who served as chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and co-chairman of the 9/11 Commission (and currently serves as Shelli Yoder's honorary campaign chairman) praised Shelli Yoder and her approach to national security and foreign policy.

"Shelli Yoder is tough minded. She knows that a strong defense and sound military policy doesn't come from partisan bickering or rigid ideology," former Congressman Hamilton said. "She brings a pragmatic approach to public policy and she would be a voice of integrity and prudence for us Hoosiers in Congress."

Shelli Yoder was joined by veterans and current and former public safety officers from the area, who all back her candidacy. Shelli Yoder has been endorsed by the Fraternal Order of Police and the International Association of Fire Fighters.

Shelli Yoder's opponent--Tennessee Trey Hollingsworth--has reduced his campaign to attacks and lies. Through his own pocketbook, his father's Super PAC, and other outside organizations, Tennessee Trey Hollingsworth has spent millions of dollars to win the Ninth Congressional District seat

"These attacks are over the top and simply untrue," Shelli Yoder said of the most recent television ad. "This campaign--from the start--has been about Hoosier representation and finding common sense approaches and smart solutions to the issues facing Indiana and our country."
