Issue Position: Public Health

Issue Position

Public health will always be a "hot button" topic with plenty of legislation to review. Our hospitals across the State have been under attack by the Governor, and have lost funding due to gross mismanagement of prior year budgeting. I have voted to reinstate their funding so they can improve the quality of healthcare services in our communities. My advocacy has been recognized by www.carewecancounton.org

Another serious issue is Opioid Addiction. I have met with physicians to discuss their opioid prescription practices. I have also co-hosted a forum in Milford on Opioid Addiction where we brought together Connecticut experts in an open conversation to discuss how we can improve the crisis we are currently facing.

I also voted in favor of establishing the TBI Advisory Board Connecticut, which has the potential to become a leader in TBI recovery across the country. This advisory board promotes both brain research and a coordinated network of treatment facilities for those with brain injuries.

And we have Established a Safe Haven Day to remind mothers each year that they do not have to abandon their child in a hopeless situation. I was proud to support this legislation last year, as we hope to prevent as many infant abandonments and deaths as possible.
