Issue Position: The Opioid Crisis

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2016

The Opioid Crisis -- Addiction is a disease that affects not only individuals, but their families, and the community. I will support legislation that addresses the root causes of the opioid crisis, such as access to rehabilitative services and the regulation of prescription opiates.

I do not believe addiction has left any part of our community unaffected. I have personally seen family members struggle with addiction, so this issue is near and dear to my heart.

As State Representative, I will work hard to enact legislation and policies to take on the addiction epidemic. I will make sure our community has the resources and policies to address the root causes of addiction. This not only means targeting the availability of highly addictive substances like opioids, but also ensuring adequate availability of quality rehabilitative services and mental health care (for both those overcoming addiction and their family and friends). As State Representative I will also advocate for increased community education about addiction.
