Issue Position: Business and Taxes

Issue Position

As a business owner, I have experienced firsthand how excessive regulations and complicated tax codes hinder and stifle small business.

Small business is the backbone to our Michigan economy and successful businesses can only be achieved through free market solutions; free from excessive regulations, taxes and bureaucratic red tape.

Businesses cannot expand if all of their profits are going to fund a bloated government in the form of taxes. Business owners can use those profits to further stimulate the economy by employing more citizens, expanding their business plans or helping their families achieve their dreams.

Taxes by their very nature reduce a citizen's freedom. As stated in the Republican platform (2012), "in a free society, taxes should fund services that are essential and authorized by the Constitution, such as national security and the care of those who cannot care for themselves."

I reject the use of taxes to redistribute income or fund ineffective programs. I will stand up for fellow small business men and women and embolden an entrepreneurial environment in Northern Michigan.
