Issue Position: Protecting Hoosier Values

Issue Position

Religious Liberty and Rights of Conscience for All Hoosiers:

The right of every person to live according to their most deeply-held convictions, both in private and in public, serves as the cornerstone of a truly free society. As our Indiana state constitution has clearly determined, every Hoosier has the natural right to worship Almighty God according to the dictates of their own consciences. Therefore, no law shall be passed restraining the free interchange of thought and opinion, or restricting the right to speak, write, or print, freely, on any subject whatever. The current erosion of these bedrock Constitutional principles creates a crack in our societal foundation that, if left unchecked, will be the cause of our own undoing.

Upholding the Ideal of Marriage:

Marriage, as designed by our Creator, is to be between a man and a woman. And social science has repeatedly confirmed that the ideal scenario for a child's well-being is to be raised in a home where both biological parents are present and lovingly invested in their upbringing. We recognize that in our fractured world, the real is not always the ideal. And yet, because the ideal model of marriage and family serves the best interests of all people and societies, it should be pursued whenever possible.

The Sanctity of Life:

Human life is sacred. Because life begins at conception, all innocent life should be protected at every stage of the human life cycle. To destroy life at any point is to depreciate life at every point on that spectrum, thus putting every person ultimately at risk. The taking of life through abortion is a heart-wrenching tragedy for all of those involved, from the innocent unborn babies whose lives have been destroyed to the desperate mothers in crisis who have been falsely led to believe that abortion is their best option. Therefore, it is incumbent upon leaders to leverage our influence to create a culture of life whenever possible.

The Right to Bear Arms:

Recognizing the myriad of threats in today's world, we should protect the constitutional right of all law-abiding citizens to own and operate guns in order to protect themselves, their families, and our State.
