Now It's Time to Get to Work

Statement

Date: April 27, 2016
Issues: Elections

I am so honored that the people of Maryland have selected me as the Republican nominee for the US Senate seat. I could not have won without the dedication of my supporters, the patience and love of my family, and the hard work of my staff. This victory is a victory for everyone!

But last night's victory just marks the end of the first half of this election. Now it's time to get to work. We have a little over six months until the general election on November 8th and if we are going to defeat whichever career politician the Democrats elect, we will need to work harder and longer than anyone else running. I can promise you right now you will not find a harder worker than me.

Governor Hogan's successes and support in Maryland, including with Democrats, prove that Marylanders like the change he's bringing to our state and they will support a candidate like me who will bring that same real change to Washington. And that is exactly what I will do. As a small business owner, I can bring businesses sense to Washington to get our economy moving again. And as a leader in Annapolis, I have a proven track record of working across the aisle to actually get things accomplished -- something that is sorely lacking in Washington right now.

Washington is broken. Government debt has almost doubled in the last seven years. Our borders are not secure and immigration system is not working. The government's takeover of our health care system has resulted in skyrocketing premiums and people losing their doctor. Government overregulation is running small businesses out of work and hampering job creation. Our children are not being prepared for the future job market they actually face. And the tragedies at the VA have left a stain on our nation.

The problem is that Washington politicians have stopped working for the people of Maryland and instead are working for whichever DC-based special interest groups are funding their campaigns. Chris Van Hollen has been in Congress for more than a decade and in that time, things have only gotten worse for the people of Maryland. Meanwhile, Washington lobbyists and DC insiders are thriving. That's why they funneled millions into the Democrat primary campaign. They like Washington exactly as it is -- working for them instead of working for the people.

If you like the Washington is and want more of the same, then you should vote for Chris Van Hollen. He has made a career out of maintaining the status quo in Washington. But if you think it's time Congress actually started to accomplish something, then I encourage you to visit www.kathyformaryland.com to learn more about me, why I'm running, and how I am going to change Washington. I know that together we can change Washington.
