Issue Position: Developing a Water Infrastructure

Issue Position

It has been stated that Texas has to get serious about our water supply situation in Texas. Issues
about increasing the supply of water to economic growth and manufacturers moving to states
with surplus water, must be addressed.

Drought has plagued Texas for several years, but the good news is that local governments and
water authorities have looked hard at their water needs for more than a decade. They know what
improvements it will take to assure adequate water supplies.

Fixing the water situation will take financial resources and innovative ideas, but our eye should
be on the future. A future for the people who will live and work in Texas. Our region in
particular knows that we live in an arid land and that our existence depends on wise use of our
water resources. And, in the course of developing better water infrastructure, we will need to
protect private property rights.
