Veterans are special Americans. They all swore to sacrifice their lives in defense of our great nation. It is our sacred duty to "care for those who have borne the battle, and for their families."

I am a wounded combated veteran of the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and proudly served in Iraq. I spent a year in a military hospital recovering from an enemy sniper's round that pierced my left forearm. Although I transitioned back to civilian life, it was not easy. I have dealt with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). I have dealt with their backlogs, lack of services, ineptness, and have even had my disability compensation taken away. I have even had close friends who have attempted and committed suicide. Simply put, I personally know the challenges facing veterans because I am one, and will do all I can to fight for us.

When elected to Congress I will:

1. Lower the veteran unemployment rate.
2. Defend and expand veterans' education benefits.
3. Streamline the VA and end backlogs.
4. NEVER allow the VA healthcare system to be privatized.
5. Expand veterans' benefits to family members.
6. Increase support for female veterans.
7. Combat suicide among veterans and active duty personnel.
