Labrador Issues Statement on Supreme Court Blocking EPA Clean Power Plan

Rep. Raúl Labrador, R-Idaho, issued the following statement after the U.S. Supreme Court blocked implementation of the Environmental Protection Agency's Clean Power Plan.

"The Supreme Court took an extraordinary step Tuesday, blocking a sweeping Obama Administration rule before the lower court had made a decision or even been fully briefed. I am heartened by the Court's stay because it suggests they join me and many others in Congress who believe the EPA has vastly overreached with rules that would disproportionately burden the middle class.

"Coupled with a Circuit Court ruling blocking the job-killing "Waters of the United States' rule, the courts have spared our economy irreparable harm. But we can't keep relying on judges to push back against executive branch excess. I'm hopeful that our new effort on the Judiciary Committee to examine presidential overreach will help restore congressional authority under the Constitution."

Last week, Labrador was named to the House Judiciary Committee's Task Force on Executive Overreach. The bipartisan group will study increased presidential and executive branch power and the impact it has on congressional oversight, lack of transparency in government and the constitutional requirement that the President faithfully execute the law.
