Issue Position: Workers' Rights

Issue Position

After graduating from law school, I immediately used my law degree to protect workers' rights. It's something I have always been passionate about. I have stood up to employers who have wrongfully withheld wages from their workers. I have fought for workers who have suffered work injuries and been discarded by their employers and hung out to dry by insurance carriers. I have taken on companies who have discriminated against workers based on their age, gender, and race. I have taken on companies who engage in anti-union unfair labor practices.

My law partner and I have stood up to Governor Branstad's power grabs by working with legislators and union leaders to fight against his illegal and unconstitutional actions that have been aimed at pushing around unemployed and underemployed workers, at-risk adolescent girls, the mentally ill, and the labor unions that stand in his way. In short, my legal career has been about ensuring the laws that protect working families are followed. But I have also seen too many places where our laws do too little to offer real protections for hard-working Iowans from the bad actors in our system, and instead protect bad-acting employers. I'm running to expand worker rights and democracy in the workplace and help level the playing field for Iowa workers and their families.
