Wilson Statement on White House Summit on Worker Voice

Statement

Date: Oct. 7, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

"I am pleased to be participating in the White House Summit on Worker Voice today. President Obama should be commended for initiating a much-needed conversation with workers, employers, unions, advocates and others who are speaking up in their communities to ensure that hard-working Americans receive the benefits they deserve and that their labor rights are protected. As the ranking Democrat on the Workforce Protections Subcommittee, I look forward to hearing how workers are using their voices to make a difference and from employers who take time to listen to the people who work so hard to ensure that their businesses are prosperous.

"House Democrats are working hard to ensure that Americans are treated fairly in the workplace. I recently introduced the Payroll Fraud Prevention Act of 2015 to crack down on worker misclassification, which deprives workers of their right to unionize by stripping them of their employee status. The White House summit coincides with the release of a report from House Education and Workforce Committee Democrats titled "Stronger Together,' which highlights the ways unions help build and strengthen the middle class and the nation's economy."
