Fleming Comments on Pope Francis' Congressional Address

Statement

Congressman John Fleming, M.D. released the following statement after attending Pope Francis' address to a Joint Session of Congress:

"I commend Pope Francis' admonition to protect life and promote the family, and I appreciate his heartfelt compassion for those most vulnerable throughout American society. These are core principles that should unite our country and be reflected in federal policy. The Pope's plea to address violence and poverty, and to be good stewards of our natural resources is a call to strengthen our resolve to diplomatically approach the political questions of our time.

"The Catholic Church has been a stalwart defender of the rights of the unborn and for religious freedom across the world. It is my hope that we can continue this ongoing dialogue."
