"The Illinois Federation of Teachers is a statewide organization made up of more than 200 local unions throughout Illinois. The IFT is governed by elected leaders, including a president, executive vice president, secretary-treasurer and 40 vice presidents. All are elected by the membership and represent IFT members from locals throughout the state. Elections are conducted every three years at the unions statewide convention. Every local is unique and operates autonomously, with each locals governing body and membership making decisions in its best interests. Locals vary in size from less than 10 members to more than 30,000. No matter how large or small, every IFT local receives support and assistance from the IFT. The IFT is a proud affiliate of the 1.5 million-member American Federation of Teachers (AFT), the 10-million-member American Federation of Labor - Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) and the 1 million-member Illinois AFL-CIO, the state affiliate of the AFL-CIO." The organization endorsed the following representatives in that year.
