Summary

This initiative proposes an amendment to the Nevada Constitution establishing that it is the policy of the State to encourage and accelerate the development of new renewable energy for the economic, health, and environmental benefits provided to the people ofNevada. The initiative sets minimum standards for renewable energy use beginning calendar year 2022 and the following years thereafter so that by 2030, each provider of electric service shall generate or acquire from renewable energy systems at least 50% of the total amount of electricity sold by the provider to its retail customers in Nevada during that year. Renewable energy includes energy from solar, geothermal and wind energy projects. The initiative is designed to increase the amount of renewable energy used in Nevada. If this initiative is enacted, it will supersede the minimum standards for renewable energy use established in Section 704.7821(1) of the Nevada Revised Statutes and require the Legislature to enact and/or modify related provisions implementing the initiative's standards not later than July 1, 2021.
