Idaho State Legislative Election 2022 Political Courage Test

Pro-life a) Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
No b) Do you support legalizing abortion when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape?
Yes c) Do you support the prohibition of public funds for organizations that perform abortions?
Abortion is murder. It is unnecessary, psychologically harmful to all involved and immoral. There is no room for such a barbaric procedure in our society. All life is precious, and it is time we started acting as though we believe that.
No a) In order to balance the budget, do you support reducing state employee salaries AND/OR pensions?
No b) Do you support raising taxes on any income or on any entity, to promote economic growth?
No c) Do you support raising the corporate tax rate and income taxes on individuals earning over $250,000 per year to fund the Quality Education Fund in Idaho?
The first step in setting fair and equitable tax policy is to reduce the size and cost of government. Our current tax structure penalizes those who excel economically. This kills the incentive to invest and start businesses. Tax should not be based on income or property ownership. Everyone should pay the same amount of tax, and the tax bill should be based on the total cost of running a small and efficient government. If we cut the fat out of government, we can reduce the tax burden on everyone.
No a) Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
Yes b) Should an individual under 18 accused of a violent crime be prosecuted as an adult?
Yes c) Do you support the enforcement of federal immigration laws by state and local police?
Yes d) Do you support the use of private prisons?
Yes e) Do you support mandatory minimum sentences for non-violent drug offenders?
f) Other or expanded principles:
No a) Do you support state government spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes b) Do you support reducing government regulations on the private sector?
No c) Do you support an increase of the minimum wage of Idaho?
No d) Do you support providing financial relief to businesses AND/OR corporations negatively impacted by the state of national emergency for COVID-19?
The government should not compete with the private sector. Normal market forces should be used to regulate the private sector business environment - not the government, tax incentives or bureaucratic interference.
No a) Do you support adopting federal education standards in Idaho?
Yes b) Do you support state funding for charter schools?
No c) Do you support increasing teacher salaries AND/OR benefits in Idaho?
No d) Should immigrants unlawfully present in the United States who graduate from Idaho's high schools be eligible for in-state tuition at public universities?
Lawful immigration is the life blood of America. However, if a person enters our country illegally, he/she is committing a crime and should be apprehended and prosecuted under the law. We should not reward law breakers.
No a) Do you support state funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geo-thermal)?
No b) Do you support government regulations of greenhouse gas emissions?
No c) Do you support increasing state funding for clean drinking water initiatives?
The private sector should develop renewable energy - not the government. The government and the liberals have gone to excess with ill-fated efforts to solve environmental problems that don't exist. Much of the environmental hysteria is comparable to a solution looking for a problem. And of course, the solution always involves more government regulations, intrusion into private life and higher taxes.
Yes a) Do you support the regulation of campaign contributions from corporations, unions, and individuals?
Yes b) Do you support the use of an independent AND/OR bipartisan commission for redistricting?
Yes c) Do you support requiring a government-issued photo identification in order to vote at the polls?
No d) Do you support automatic voter registration?
e) Other or expanded principles:
No a) Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
No b) Should background checks be required on gun sales between private citizens at gun shows?
No c) Should a license be required for gun ownership?
The Second Amendment is part of the Bill of Rights in the US Constitution. No one should be required to pay a fee or obtain a license to exercise a constitutional right. What part of, "Shall not be infringed" is so hard to understand?
No a) Should the state government increase funding for treatment facilities to combat opioid abuse?
No b) Do you support a government-run (single-payer) healthcare program such as Medicare-for All?
No c) Should an individual have the right to choose to die through euthanasia?
No d) Do you support eliminating religious exemptions for vaccinations?
No e) Do you support expanding paid family AND/OR medical leave opportunities?
No f) Do you support lowering the cost of prescription drugs?
No g) Do you support the legalization of medical marijuana in Idaho?
The government should not be involved in providing health care. The private sector should, could, and does deal with providing health care. All government health care programs are far over budget and not sustainable. Also, government involvement in health care creates unwarranted and unconstitutional government competition with the private sector.
No a) Do you support the inclusion of sexual orientation in Idaho's anti-discrimination laws?
No b) Do you support the inclusion of gender identity in Idaho's anti-discrimination laws?
No c) Do you support greater efforts by Idaho's state government in closing gender, racial and other wage gaps?
Again, the government is not empowered to deal with these issues. Where does it say in the state or federal constitution the government is to provide services in these areas? The answer is, neither constitution grants the government powers or responsibilities in these areas.
I intend to protect the constitutional rights of the citizens of Idaho. I will seek to improve Idaho's anti-abortion laws, vote against wasteful spending, introduce an effort calling for an investigation into the state's and medical community's actions during the pandemic and author legislation prohibiting sanctuary schools and cities in Idaho. I will also call for the state sales tax on groceries to be repealed.
My top legislative priority is to close the three loopholes in Idaho's Trigger Law prohibiting abortions. I will seek to make it illegal to have an abortion in Idaho in the case of incest or rape. I will also seek to add criminal penalties for any woman who seeks to procure an abortion in Idaho. The only valid reason for an abortion is to save the life of the mother. There should be no funding required to improve Idaho's Trigger Law.
