Reason for Seeking Public Office:
As 2013 ended, the Cincinnati Enquirer wrote a profile on me, focusing on my persistence in public service. That's a charge to which I'll plead guilty, and it is a trait you will see on full display in 2014 as I seek to become Ohio's next Attorney General. What drives that persistence? Let me explain.
I was blessed with a wonderful upbringing and education, a supportive family, and a world of opportunity. With a new family of my own and so many incredible friends, I count my blessings every day. With all the opportunity I have been given, I knew from a young age that my life's purpose would be to give back and serve others as best I could.
So when I saw my hometown struggling in 2000-2001, I got involved and ran for office despite no political experience. Hard work propelled me to victory in that first race, and we then worked across party lines on City Council to kick start Cincinnati's renaissance. When I saw that Hamilton County was also struggling, I ran for County Commissioner, upset the incumbent, and again worked across party lines to get our fiscal house in order and drive much-needed progress for our community.
Now, as I travel our great State, I believe to my core that Ohio will need far more from its leaders if we are going to succeed and compete in the 21st century. To do better, we need an injection of new ideas, integrity, compassion for our fellow Ohioans, and a firm commitment to the broader public good in everything we do.
The right Attorney General can play a pivotal role -- uniquely situated to fight on behalf of the families, communities and interests of the State of Ohio. The right Attorney General can be a true champion for a strong, safe and prosperous Ohio future.
So I am energized to serve yet again, and I will work as hard as I know how to win this race. I can't wait to share the full agenda we will pursue as 2014 unfolds.
In this critical year, I look forward to working with anyone who shares my passion to get the job done.
