Reason for Seeking Public Office:
I've been an active, involved member of this area for 46 years. I've served the fine people here as teacher, coach, senior advocate, city councilman, state representative, and congressional field representative. I share the values of this area; that's why I chose to come here, and why I've chosen to stay. I also have the right combination of training, skills, and experience to work for those values in the state legislature. I will work to protect family farms and small businesses and the rural way of life here. I will work to create and keep good jobs here. I will work to protect the middle class, and fight for fair property taxes, income taxes, school funding, nursing home funding, and health care.
That's not an easy battle to win, and it can only be won by knowing how "the system" works. I understand that well. Rural Minnesota is a minority in the legislature, and we only get what we need by working with the metro majority, not fighting them.
This past legislative session showed that the DFL is on the right track for rural Minnesota, but there's more to be done. For the first time in several years, the legislature is actually planning ahead for future needs .for jobs, for education, for senior care. How well they plan for us here in rural Minnesota is up to us; we need to send someone to St. Paul who has a proven record of getting things done for this area. That's why I'm running. Thanks for your past support, and I hope you'll put me back to work representing you in the Minnesota House of Representatives.
