I am the daughter of a U. S. Cadet Navy Nurse and teacher who served in WW II. I am currently fighting for the passage of the U.S. Nurse Cadet Equity Act which would give the 180,000 nurse cadet in WW II veteran's benefits.

Be elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.

Person Most Want to Meet (Dead or Alive):

President John F. Kennedy

Priority Issues:

Helping those affected by Hurricane Sandy receive the benefits offered by FEMA and NY Rising. Many residents of the district are still homeless and paying a mortgage. I call on the federal and state governments to cut the red tape on Sandy relief and speed up rebuilding efforts. Many are waiting and Help has been hindered by red tape here too, and many are not eligible for these grants because they applied for government disaster loans in order to qualify for FEMA aid.

Those who took these loans because they were underpaid by insurance are now in debt to the government. Under federal law, the New York Rising grant money that could help get them home and out of debt would be a "duplication of benefits." We need to change this law now!

People should not be penalized for taking the only help available at the time, and no one who had insurance should be forced to pay for this storm for the rest of their lives.

Reason for Seeking Public Office:

We need to make Nassau and Suffolk Counties affordable places to live, create well paying jobs and to LOWER OUR TAXES. For many years I have held housing forums in conjunction with the Long Island Housing Partnership. Residents took action that has encouraged government to pass laws to create middle income affordable new homes for residents in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.

I believe that jobs, and by extension, economic growth, are created
by the consumer demand of a strong and vibrant middle class. But the
middle class needs good-paying jobs, with the opportunity for upward
mobility, for everyone to prosper.

Over the last thirty years, income inequality has skyrocketed. The
middle class has shrunk, and this has strongly correlated with the
decline of unions and the expansion of free trade. 95% of all income
gains since 2009 have gone to the richest 1%, with most of that income
coming from capital gains, not from work.

There are many ways to make the economy work for everyone. I believe
in strong communities anchored by small businesses on our main streets
and in our downtowns. The right of unions to organize and collectively
bargain must be protected to elevate and expand the middle class. Ending
free trade and negotiating for fair trade will protect jobs here at
home and bring some back from overseas. Rebuilding our infrastructure
and investing in new projects like bridges, roads, and wind farms will
create jobs as well.
