Reason for Seeking Public Office:

I have always had a keen interest in government and have kept current with the important issues facing our country and our state. For some years, I wanted to become more involved in state government and run for office, but had to wait until I was free to do so. About two years ago, I retired from a 35-year-long career as a teacher in the Minneapolis Public Schools and now have the time to dedicate myself to serve the citizens of Minnesota as State Representative.

Limited government and individual liberty are the basis of my political philosophy, and that is why I found a home in the Republican Party nearly twenty-five years ago. I have seen firsthand the problems caused by too much government control by observing the struggles of friends and family members who own small businesses. High taxes and over-regulation have inhibited much of their ability to prosper and to provide employment for others.

Having been a teacher for so many years, I have a strong desire to see every student in Minnesota receive a high quality education. School districts function more efficiently under local control. The less the federal government is involved the better. Mandates from the federal government overburden the system. Parents also need to have more to say about how and where their children are educated because they, not the government, know what is best for them.

Because I have a daughter with Down syndrome, I am well aware of the problems faced by children and adults with special needs. I want to be an advocate for them in the legislature and to see that they and their families are treated fairly.

As a member of the Minnesota State House of Representatives, my goal will be to see more power in the hands of the people and less with the government. The citizens of Minnesota have a right to run their businesses and educate their children without the intrusion of an ever- growing government.
