Reason for Seeking Public Office:

Anchorage, AK -- June 1, 2016 -- Kevin Kastner, executive director of the Iron Dog, the world's longest snowmobile race, has filed to run for the Alaska State Senate today.

"First and foremost, I am running to represent the people of East Anchorage and JBER. I believe that Alaskans in this area represent the future of our great state and they deserve a choice in leadership. I am the only candidate who seeks to find answers not just symbolic opposition, has a reputation for building consensus, believes in self-determination, has real-world small business experience, aims to reduce the role and scope of government in our daily lives, truly understands the meaning of diversity and has a proven record of direct support for our students and military."

Kevin has not held public office but has been engaged in statewide issues and political interests for a decade. In the last six years, he has led the notable expansion of a major event that spans more communities in Alaska than any other event of its kind. He managed this growth through a vision for the future, focus on community, strong relationship management, return on investment and responsible stewardship of the donated funds.

He has also driven legislative action that resulted in greater charitable giving for Alaska military support groups, raised awareness for suicide prevention, provided unique learning opportunities for high school students across the state and worked closely with many native, federal, state, local and private industry contacts across the state.

Kevin and his partner Job, have resided in Alaska for more than 20 years. He has family living in Alaska including his father and nephew, and an extended family with roots in Alaska going back to the 1950s.

"My goal is to develop a vision for Alaska and strike a balance that benefits all Alaskans," Kevin said. "The days of ideological governance can no longer be afforded. I believe in a connected state, connected people and building working relationships. I believe there is a pathway that unites all facets of our different business, social and political interests. As a true explorer, I am committed to going over, under and through whatever challenges the way to finding the path forward."

###

Using my skills as negotiator combined with a relationship and collaborative mindset, I am prepared to find the support and develop legislation that will benefit our community -- and all Alaskans. I will commit to work on the many challenges likely to threaten the needs of East Anchorage communities and JBER. I will also be on constant look out for our service members, that they have the support and resources they and their families have earned. I am committed to finding the resources to continue to fund education that performs, support our police and first responders, and keep our neighborhoods connected with quality roads and public services.

I encourage you to read more about my background and experience. Thank you for your support, I look forward to visiting with you as I go door to door this summer and fall.

Let's work together to pave the way for a brighter vision of Alaska.
