Reason for Seeking Public Office:
Dr. Dan has been fortunate to spend the past 30 years in Cherokee County, surrounded by the awesome beauty of the Appalachian Mountains. Through his practice, travel ball teams, church, hospital and other activities in which he has participated around the area, Dr. Dan has had the opportunity to meet and get to know many of the fiercely independent people who were born and raised here or who have chosen to live in this area for many of the same reason as Dr. Dan.
Dr. Dan is a champion of limited government, personal responsibility, fiscal restraint, individual freedom and a free market economy. He is a defender of the United States Constitution, private property as the moral and constitutional source of individual freedom, and the divine origin of the Natural Law rights protected by that document. Dr. Dan believes that the right to own private property that cannot be arbitrarily regulated or confiscated by the government is the moral and constitutional basis of individual freedom. As Cherokee County Commissioner, Dr. Dan will continue to oppose any laws, rules, or regulations that limit the use of or take away private property rights from any individual citizen of Cherokee County. ?If just one citizen loses any part of his individual freedom, all of us are less free.?
Dr. Dan believes in a balanced budget, debt reduction, lower taxes, the sanctity of life, our second amendment right to keep and bear arms, and getting government out of the way of free market job creation.
In 2010, Dr. Dan founded Dr. Dan?s Freedom Forum, a conservative think tank and blog. In 2012, he became host of Freedom Forum Radio on 95.1FM.
Dr. Dan graduated from the Yale School of Medicine, Cum Laude, and went on to serve as a commissioned Naval officer during the Vietnam era. He is a 38-year practicing physician and successful small business owner. Dr. Dan has authored 14 peer-reviewed articles, lectured internationally at ophthalmology meetings, and holds six US patents.
Dr. Dan is most proud of the fact that he has restored sight to thousands of patients under routine circumstances and to thousands more that came injured and in pain at all hours of the day and night . . . regardless of their ability to pay.
Dr. Dan?s priorities as Cherokee County Commissioner will continue to be Public Safety, Education, Job Creation, Private Property Rights, and Low Property Taxes.
