All About the Vice-Presidential Candidates

16 August 2012

For those of you living under rocks,
Mitt Romney announced his running mate last Saturday – Wisconsin congressman Paul Ryan. You've probably heard a fair amount about Ryan, probably about his time spent as chair of the House Budget committee, and the budget proposal he crafted. But what about the information voters really want to know, like the fact that he's a fan of Monty Python*? At votesmart.org you can find out all you need to know (and more) about both vice-presidential contenders.

Just go to their profiles by typing their names in our handy search bar at votesmart.org

One of the main issues surrounding Romney's pick is the “Ryan Plan” known to us political nerds as “The Path to Prosperity” or (to the super-nerds) as “House Concurrent Resolution 112”. Whatever you call it, “it” was a budget proposal attributed to Paul Ryan who was (and still is) head of the budget committee. We covered this budget as a Key Vote so you can see voting records and a summary of the legislation on our website.

Test your research skills...

Which law school did Joe Biden graduate from, and in which year?  Check out votesmart.org for the answer and then email your answers to membership@votesmart.org. Remember to include a mailing address, as the first to answer will receive some Vote Smart goodies!

Joe Biden, if you're wondering, does not list a favorite TV show or movie.  However, if you're interested in a fun fact, Biden does mention “weightlifting” as a hobby.  You can find this information under “Additional Information” on their biography page at votesmart.org

*Ryan lists “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” as one of his favorite films and “Monty Python's Flying Circus” as one of his favorite TV shows.
