Blogging from the Bus: Spreading Democracy in the South

22 March 2008

PVS Bus and McCain Bus Apologies are surely in order due to the inordinate amount of time that has passed since the last entry in the "Blogging From The Bus" series. While it has been quite a while since the last entry, it is most certainly not due to the fact that there has been no news to report, in fact quite the contrary. The Project Vote Smart bus has been busy plugging away saving democracy one mile at a time.
Since we last left you, the bus has been through the mountains of New Mexico, the deserts of Texas, and the bayou of Louisiana and Mississippi, with Tennessee up next. We made a number of stops in New Mexico including one in Los Alamos that we couldn't have made without the hard work of Joe and Lois Thompson. We then traveled through Texas in the run up to their primary/caucus on March 4th, criss-crossing paths with the presidential candidates numerous times. (Above is a picture from our encounter with Sen. John McCain's bus) During our stay in Texas and Jon and I were also lucky enough to get a home cooked meal from another loyal member, Linda Preble who made us feel right at home. From Texas we set off to Louisiana wherein we squeezed the bus into the tightest spot possible down in the historic French Quarter in New Orleans.
Jon and I would definitely be remiss if we didn't take this time to sincerely thank all of those members who have made our journey that much more rewarding and satisfying. So thank you very much.
Check back soon for more updates from the road.
