Title: Amends Juvenile Justice Laws to Treat 17-Year-Olds as Adults
Vote to pass a bill that amends juvenile justice laws to treat 17-year-olds as adults in the state of Louisiana.
Defines “child” to mean any person who under the age of 21, including emancipated minors, who commits a delinquent act on or after July 1, 2020, until April 19, 2024 (Sec. 1).
Establishes the aforementioned “delinquent act” must occur before the person attains 18 years of age to be considered a “child” (Sec. 1).
Authorizes the effective date as the day following April 19, 2024 (Sec. 1).
