Title: Authorizes School Employees to be Issued Permits to Carry Weapons
Vote to concur with senate amendments and pass a bill that authorizes school employees to be issued professional permits to carry weapons in the state of Iowa.
Authorizes board of directors of school districts with an enrollment of at least eight thousand students to employ a security officer to guard each attendance center (Sec. 1).
Requires all security officers employed by board of directors to participate in an annual live scenario training and quality live firearm training program (Sec. 1).
Authorizes the board of education to develop a school personnel grant program to allow school districts to offset costs of employing security officers (Sec. 1).
Establishes that school employees may be issued a permit to carry weapons if they complete a prescribed firearm safety training course (Sec. 2).
Requires the school employee issued a permit to carry a firearm to receive one-time, in person legal training (Sec. 2).
Prohibits the identity of a person who has been issued a permit from being public record or subject to disclosure (Sec. 2).
