Title: Authorizes Electronic Driver Licenses
Vote to pass a bill that authorizes the use of electronic drivers licenses in the state of New Mexico.
Establishes terminology regarding “electronic credentials” and “credential holder” (Sec.1).
Requires a physical drivers license to be carried and exhibited on demand in its physical form (Sec. 6).
Authorizes the Tax and Revenue Department to issue an electronic credential to a person in addition to a physical drivers license or physical identification card (Sec. 8).
Prohibits the use of an electronic credential that is not processed through a state-approved application (Sec. 8).
Requires the credential holder to have physical possession of the device on which the electronic credential is accessed (Sec. 10).
Requires the credential holders consent in order for the departments access to their data (Sec. 11).
Authorizes the department to charge a fee for loading the electronic credential onto a device (Sec. 13).
