Title: Increases Renewable Energy Requirements
Vote to adopt a conference report that increases renewable energy requirements.
Requires greater diversification of renewable energy generation to include intermittent and firm renewable generation to improve reliability and achieve 100% renewable energy objectives (Sec. 3).
Requires replacement of fossil fuel generation with firm renewable energy that totals to a minimum of one third of renewable energy for each island (Sec. 3).
Specifies that any one type of renewable energy should not exceed 45% of all energy generation for each island, excluding geothermal energy (Sec. 3).
Prohibits fossil fuels after December 31, 2045, exempt in cases of emergency or natural disaster (Sec. 3).
Specifies the ban of fossil fuels may not be delayed more than three consecutive three-year extensions (Sec. 3).
Requires the office of planning and sustainable development to update state energy plan which must be submitted at least 20 days prior to the convening of the 2023 legislative session (Sec. 4).
