Title: Increases Access to the Death with Dignity Act
Vote to pass a bill that increases access to the Death with Dignity Act.
Defines “qualified medical provider” as a physician, physician assistant, osteopathic physician assistant, or advanced registered nurse practitioner who has primary responsibility for the care of the patient and treatment of the patient's terminal disease (Sec. 1).
Defines “informed consent” as a decision by a qualified patient to request and obtain a prescription for medication that the qualified patient may self-administer to end their life in a humane and dignified manner (Sec. 1).
Prohibits an individual from receiving a prescription for end of life medication unless they have made an informed decision (Sec. 9).
Authorizes a qualified medical provider to fill a qualified patient's oral request to receive an end of life medication if it is determined that the patient is not expected to survive for 72 hours (Sec. 11).
Specifies that nothing in this act shall be construed to prohibit a health care provider from participating in the aforementioned end of life drug authorizations (Sec. 17).
