Title: National Commission to Investigate the January 6 Attack on the United States Capitol Complex Act
Vote on a motion to invoke cloture and pass a bill that establishes a national commission to investigate the January 6 attack on the US Capitol.
Establishes the “National Commission to Investigate the January 6 Attack on the US Capitol Complex” within the legislative branch (Sec. 2).
Requires the Commission to do the following in order to improve the security of the US Capitol complex, including (Sec. 3):
Conduct an investigation of the relevant facts and circumstances relating to the attack on the capitol;
Identify, review, and evaluate the causes of and the lessons learned from this attack; and
Submit specifies reports containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations to improve the detection, prevention, preparedness for, and responses to targeted violence and domestic terrorism.
Authorizes the Commission to hold hearings, receive evidence, and issue subpoenas while investigating the January 6 attack on the US Capitol (Sec. 6).
Requires the Commission to be composed of the following members, including (Sec. 5):
One member appointed jointly by the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Majority leader of the Senate to serve as chairperson;
One member appointed jointly by the minority leader of the House of Representatives and the minority leader of the Senate;
2 members appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives;
2 members appointed minority leader of the House of Representatives;
2 members appointed by the majority leader of the Senate; and
2 members appointed by the minority leader of the Senate.
NOTE: THIS LEGISLATION NEEDED A THREE-FIFTHS MAJORITY VOTE TO PASS.
