Vote to concur with House amendments and pass a bill that establishes an automatic voter registration process through driver's license and identification card applications.

Highlights:

 

  • Authorizes the secretary of state to establish a secure data transfer program (Sec. 1).

  • Requires that any time an individual resident over the age of 18 applies for a driver’s license, non-driver’s picture identification card, or records a change to a driver’s license or non-driver’s license identification card with the division of motor vehicles, to automatically apply to be registered to vote unless the individual declines to submit such registration application (Sec. 1).

  • Requires the division of motor vehicles to electronically transmit to the secretary of state information about every eligible voter applying that will then be uploaded to the statewide centralized database and reviewed by elected officials (Sec. 1).

  • Requires the division of motor vehicles to add a voter registration section to both online and paper forms used to apply for a driver’s license or nondriver’s identification card (Sec. 1).

  • Requires the secretary of state to mail out to each registered voter their voter registration information and instructions over how to join a political party as well as the registered individuals polling location upon receiving the electronic record of the applicant’s information (Sec. 1).

  • Requires the secretary of state to immediately inform a registered voter if the city or town clerk or supervisor deems there to be an error in the voter registration application (Sec. 1).
