Title: Amends State K-12 School Year Calendar

Vote to pass an amended bill that amends the state k-12 school year calendar.

Highlights:

 

  • Amends the school calendar requirement of at least 175 days of instruction to at least 962.5 hours of instruction for elementary school students and 1,050 hours of instruction for middle and high school students (Sec. 1).

  • Requires a school district that intends to have a 4 day school week, to apply to and be approved for a waiver by the superintendent of public instruction (Sec. 1).

  • Authorizes the board of each school district to establish the length of a period, day, and week in accordance with the first highlight (Sec. 2).

  • Authorizes the public school or school district to reschedule instruction hours in accordance with the first highlight if the public school or school district is closed or provides less than a full day of instruction (Sec. 2).
