Title: Authorizes Inmate Housing According to Gender Identity
Vote to pass a bill that authorizes inmate housing according to gender identity rather that biological sex.
Defines “gender pronoun” as a third-person singular pronoun, such as “he,” “she,” or “they” (Sec. 2).
Defines “honorific” as a form of respectful address typically combined with an individual’s surname, such as “Mr.,” “Ms.,” or “Mx.” (Sec. 2).
Requires the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to ask each individual admitted to the department about their (Sec. 2):
Gender identity and sex assigned at birth; and
Preferred first name, gender pronoun, and honorific.
Requires the identification issued to incarcerated individuals to have a gender marker appropriate to the gender identity stated by the individual (Sec. 2).
Requires staff and contractors of the department to use the gender pronouns and honorifics specified by incarcerated individuals (Sec. 2).
Requires incarcerated individuals to be placed in correctional facilities in accordance with their gender identity, unless an individual’s health and safety needs necessitate a differing placement, in which case the individual’s housing will be reassessed (Sec. 3).
