Vote to pass a bill that requires employment background checks for teachers.

Highlights:

• Authorizes a school district, charter school or nonpublic school to conduct an electronic or written employment history background check on any individual that will serve in a position that involves regular contact with children (Sec. 1).

• Authorizes a school district, charter school, or nonpublic school to immediately terminate an individual’s employment or rescind an employment offer if it is later discovered that the individual applicant has a history of sexual misconduct or child abuse (Sec. 1).

• Defines “sexual misconduct” as any verbal, nonverbal, written, or electronic communication or any other act directed toward or with a student that is designed to establish a sexual relationship(Sec. 1).

• Defines “child abuse” as any conduct that is directed toward or against a child or student regardless or the age (Sec. 1).
