Vote to pass a bill that requires the Department of Motor Vehicles to create a "Choose Life" specialty license plate to be available beginning January 1, 2018.

Highlights:

• Requires the Department of Motor Vehicles to design a “Choose Life” specialty license plate that is to be provided as an option beginning January 1, 2017 (Sec. 7):

• Requires that the “Choose Life” license plate either be a five digit alphanumeric plate or a 5 character personalized message plate (Sec. 7).

• Requires that in addition to all other fees charged to register a vehicle, the following fee shall be paid upon initial issuance and the annual renewal of the “Choose Life” license plate (Sec. 7):

• $5 for the alphanumeric design, which will be deposited to the Nebraska Child Abuse Prevention Fund; and

• $40 for the personalized message design, $30 of which will be deposited to the Nebraska Child Abuse Prevention Fund and $10 of which will be deposited to the Department of Motor Vehicles Cash Fund.

• Specifies that if the manufacturing cost of a “Choose Life” license plate exceeds the amount charged by the Department of Motor Vehicles when a new plate is issued (an amount not to exceed $3.50), the difference between the actual manufacturing cost and the issuance fee must be deducted from any amount paid into the Nebraska Child Abuse Prevention Fund and be deposited to the Highway Trust Fund (Sec. 7).
