Title: Requires Employers to Offer Paid Sick Leave

Vote to pass a bill that requires an employer to offer paid sick leave to full-time employees.
Highlights:
Requires an employer to provide paid sick and safe leave to a full-time employee for absences resulting from certain issues, including, but not limited to, a mental or physical illness, injury, or health condition of the employee or his or her family member, and domestic violence (Sec. 4).
Requires paid sick and safe leave to accrue at the following rates (Sec. 3):
At least 1 hour of leave per 40 hours worked, for a “tier 1” or “tier 2” employee;
At least 1 hour of leave per 30 hours worked, for a “tier 3” employee.
Authorizes an employee who has worked at least 180 days to use accrued sick and safe leave, beginning January 1 of the year following the effective date of this bill (Secs. 3 & 4).
Classifies a place of employment according to the following tiers (Sec. 2):
“Tier 1” employs at least 4 and fewer than 50 full-time employees;
“Tier 2” employs at least 50 and fewer than 250 full-time employees; and
“Tier 3” employs at least 250 full-time employees.
Authorizes an employee to transfer the following amounts of unused sick and safe leave to the subsequent year (Sec. 3):
40 hours, for a tier 1 employee;
56 hours, for a tier 2 employee; and
72 hours, for a tier 3 employee.
Specifies that an employer is not required to authorize the transfer of unused sick and safe leave to the subsequent year in excess of the established limits (Sec. 3).
Requires an employer to reestablish previously accrued and unused sick and safe leave if an employee is rehired within 7 months of separation (Sec. 3).
