Vote to pass a bill that requires a physician or a qualified person to provide certain information to an abortion patient before the abortion is performed.
Highlights:
Requires that at least 24 hours prior to an abortion, a physician or a qualified person assisting the physician shall (Sec. 1):
Inform the pregnant woman of the medical and psychological risks of abortion, as well as the risks of pregnancy and childbirth;
Inform the woman that she has a right to view an ultrasound;
Direct the woman to available counseling and other resources; and
Discuss birth control options to prevent unintended pregnancy including availability, risks and efficacy.
Exempts abortions performed for the following reasons from the provisions of this act (Sec. 1):
Abortion is necessary to save the life or preserve the health of the mother;
The pregnancy is the result of incest or sexual assault; or
To remove a nonviable fetus or an ectopic pregnancy.
Specifies that if disclosures are required, a signed statement obtained by the physician from the pregnant woman acknowledging that she was provided the required information shall be treated as a confidential medical document (Sec. 1).
